Physical Rehabilitation

Physical Rehabilitation therapy is a combined branch of rehabilitative medicine which includes physiotherapy techniques, podiatry, biomechanical analysis and movement and sports therapy aimed at helping patients maintain, recover and/or improve their physical ability. We work with patients both young and old whose movements may be compromised by ageing, disease, environmental factors or sporting hazards.

According to the various physical therapy societies of the UK, “We use our training and skills to treat a wide range of physical problems linked to different systems in the body, including:”

Neuromuscular systems
Concerned with both nerves and muscles. Nerves include the brain, spine, and nerves throughout the body. Neuromuscular refers to the neuromuscular junction – where nerves and muscle fibres meet and also includes neuromuscular transmission – the transfer of information, impulses, from the nerve to the muscle
Musculoskeletal systems
An organ system that gives people the ability to move using their muscles and bones (muscular and skeletal systems). The musculoskeletal system gives them form, movement and stability. The musculoskeletal system includes their bones, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints and other connective tissue.
Cardiovascular systems
Include the heart and the circulatory systems. The circulatory system carries nutrients and oxygen via blood vessels to the tissues of the body and removes waste and carbon dioxide from them.
Orthopaedic therapy
Musculoskeletal system injuries and disorders; including rehabilitation for post-orthopaedic surgery patients:

  • Postoperative joints
  • Arthritis
  • Disease or injuries affecting muscles, bones, ligaments or tendons
